Course Title: Understanding Dementia
Who Should Attend:
This course is for carers in any setting who work with people who may have dementia. The training will give an overview of the main issues surrounding dementia care and there will be opportunity for discussion. The afternoon will give a broad overview of therapeutic approaches and participants will be asked to consider current thinking and perspectives. Suggestions will be offered to guide people in further reading around this subject.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to;
- Demonstrate understanding of the process of dementia by listing possible causes, symptoms, effects and progression.
- Assess the difference between dementia and other illnesses that can present in a similar way.
- Discuss ways of promoting a positive environment for those with dementia and their carers.
- Begin to evaluate approaches and ways of supporting people with dementia.
